Sequencing finds listeria in unlikely places
Robert Rubin Mayo has launched an intriguing project which gives us a background of the original ancestry of the Jews of Rhodes Spanish, Romaniote, Turkish and Italian. Rubin is the grandson of Joseph M. Mayo, who was originally from Rhodes. They did not match along the paternal lines of their families. Therefore, what I had thought to be a spelling variation of the surname may actually be two entirely different families. I do not want to draw a conclusion just based on two individuals. Thus, it is now possible for men with the surname ISRAEL to determine if they had ancestors from this Rabbinical Dynasty along the paternal lines of their families.
What Else Can I Do With My DNA Test Results?
Autosomal DNA testing, remember, is the kind of test that works across genders to locate relatives — cousins — from all parts of your family tree. All of which I have taken. There are real advantages to testing as widely as possible: But since nobody is handing out DNA kits for free, the question remains… how do you get the most bang for the DNA buck?
And the answer depends in part on what it is you want to find out through your DNA testing. Every one of the genetic genealogy companies has its pros and its cons.
The Massachusetts senator and potential Democratic hopeful released results Monday of a DNA test conducted by a Stanford University researcher to The Boston Globe that provided evidence that she may have a Native American ancestor dating back several generations.
Denser materials like oak flooring will generally show sharper lines of demarcation than polymer e. The absence of a carpet pad often leads to sharper lines. Irregular patterns are common in situations of post flashover conditions, long extinguishing times, or building collapse. These patterns may result from the effects of hot gases, flaming and smoldering debris, melted plastics, or ignitable liquids. The presence of ignitable liquids is suspected, supporting evidence in the form of a laboratory analysis should be sought.
It should be noted that many plastic materials release hydrocarbon fumes when they pyrolyze or burn. These fumes may have an odor similar to that of petroleum products and can be detected by combustible gas indicators when no ignitable liquid accelerant has been used. It should be noted that pyrolysis products, including hydrocarbons, can be detected in laboratory analysis of fire debris in the absence of the use of accelerants.
It can be helpful for the laboratory, when analyzing carpet debris, to burn a portion of the comparison sample and run a gas chromatographic-mass spectrometric analysis on both samples. By comparing the results of the burned and unburned caparison samples with those from the fire debris sample, it may be possible to determine whether or not hydrocarbon residues in the debris sample were products of pyrolysis or residue of an accelerant.
In any situation where the presence of ignitable liquids is suggested, the effects of flashover, airflow, hot gases, melted plastic, and building collapse should be considered. Even in these cases, radiant heating may cause the production of patterns on some surfaces that can be misinterpreted as liquid burn patterns. These patterns can also be produced by localized heating or fallen fire debris. The term pour patterns implies that a liquid has been poured or otherwise distributed, and therefor, is demonstrative of an intentional act.

To determine the absolute age of wood and organic artifacts. Method A scientific date is either absolute specific to one point in time or relative younger or older than something else. Dendrochronology, or tree-ring dating, provides absolute dates in two different ways: Direct Dating of Wood Cross-dating determines the age of undated wood by directly matching ring patterns with trees of known age.
Greatly simplified, the process samples living and dead trees in a given area.
Using new carbon dating techniques and mathematical models, researchers examined about samples found at 40 sites from Spain to Russia, according to a study published in the journal Nature.
December 15, Dan comments This is my last posting. I started this experiment seven years ago with the hope of beginning an ongoing conversation about any and all topics related to the shroud. The slow pace of papers and the length of time between conferences, very much the time-tested way, was too slow for my temperament. There was the Shroud Science Group conducting discussions in private by email.
But its membership was restricted. You had to be nominated. You had to be invited. No one was ever turned away although a couple of people were eventually kicked out of the group for email misbehaving. Skepticism is the healthiest of attitudes with all things having to do with religion. For instance, a Christian should never fear new discoveries in science and history. We needed to be tempted, not by going into the desert but into the jostling crowd.
It took a long time. Thank, God, for Colin Berry and all the others. In doing so I created an opportunity to learn a lot from skeptics and non-skeptics alike.

The poster has been popular for years and we thought it was time to go viral with a positive message that everyone can do something to bring awareness to this issue. The federal Centers for Disease Control calls dating violence a public health problem noting that a survey of adult victims of rape, intimate partner violence and stalking indicated that 15 percent of men and 22 percent of women had first been abused by a partner when they were between 11 and 17 years old. Sediments at Lake Mungo have been deposited over more than , years. There are three distinct layers of sands and soil forming the Walls[ clarification needed – Unclear, single-use term].
The middle greyish layer is the Mungo layer, deposited between 50, and 25, years ago. The most recent is the pale brown Zanci layer, which was laid down mostly between 25, and 15, years ago. The Mungo layer, which was deposited before the last glacial period , is archaeologically the richest. Although this layer corresponds with a time of low rainfall and cooler weather, more rainwater ran off the western side of the Great Dividing Range during that period, keeping the lake full and teeming with fish and waterbirds.
It supported a significant human population and had abundant resources, as well as many varieties of Australian megafauna.

Pinterest To a frustrated single person, life can often feel like this: And at first glance, research seems to back this up, suggesting that married people are on average happier than single people and much happier than divorced people. Dissatisfied single people should actually consider themselves in a neutral, fairly hopeful position, compared to what their situation could be.
All the research on how vastly happiness varies between happy and unhappy marriages makes perfect sense, of course. So how big a deal is it? Well, start by subtracting your age from
Jun 07, · Ancient DNA has enabled us to answer long-standing questions about the relationship between archaic and modern humans. Admixture among archaic groups and between them and modern humans seems to have occurred whenever they came into geographic proximity.
An ISOGG group was formed in November to create a web-based document using Richard Kenyon’s style of an indented list which could be updated to keep pace with the rapid developments in the field. Content experts liaison with experts from various reliable sources to determine what information is needed to amend the tree. The Y Haplogroup classification of the male Y-chromosome is currently used to estimate the population group of the paternal line.
The haplogroups are identified by the letters, A through T. Haplogroups are subdivided into one or more levels, called subclades, and thus forming a tree. The Y-chromosome haplogroup is determined by performing a sequence of SNP tests. Each line lists a haplogroup or subclade in boldface, then one or more SNPs follow on the same line. For a sample to belong to a particular subclade, it must test positive for any one of the SNPs appearing on the line, providing positive results were obtained for its haplogroup and any intervening subclades.

Earlier hunter-gathering and farming cultures in Europe and Asia were replaced by cultures associated with completely new perceptions and technologies inspired by early urban civilization. It remains debated if these cultural shifts simply represented the circulation of ideas or resulted from large-scale human migrations, potentially also facilitating the spread of Indo-European languages and certain phenotypic traits.
During the late BA and Iron Age, the European-derived populations in Asia are gradually replaced by multi-ethnic cultures, of which some relate to contemporary Asian groups, while others share recent ancestry with Native Americans. Our findings are consistent with the hypothesised spread of Indo-European languages during early BA and reveal that major parts of the demographic structure of present-day Eurasian populations were shaped during this period. We also demonstrate that light skin pigmentation in Europeans was already present at high frequency during the BA, contrary to lactose tolerance, indicating a more recent onset of positive selection in the latter than previously believed.
Both groups speculate that the Yamnaya migration was at least partly responsible for the spread of the Indo-European languages into Western Europe.

Page 1 These Pages Print Best In Landscape Mode For forty days the flood kept coming on the earth, and as the waters increased they lifted the ark high above the earth. The waters rose and increased greatly on the earth, and the ark floated on the surface of the water. They rose greatly on the earth, and all the high mountains under the entire heavens were covered.
The waters rose and covered the mountains to a depth of more than twenty feet. Every living thing that moved on the earth perished–birds, livestock, wild animals, all the creatures that swarm over the earth, and all mankind. Everything on dry land that had the breath of life in its nostrils died. Every living thing on the face of the earth was wiped out; men and animals and the creatures that move along the ground and the birds of the air were wiped from the earth.
Only Noah was left, and those with him in the ark. The waters flooded the earth for a hundred and fifty days. An immense worldwide catastrophe occurred in the past. It produced the Sicilian hippopotamus beds, the fossils of which are so extensive that they are mined as a source of charcoal; the great mammal beds of the Rockies; the dinosaur beds of the Black Hills and the Rockies, as well as in the Gobi Desert; the fish beds of the Scottish Devonian stratum, the Baltic amber beds, Agate Spring Quarry in Nebraska, and hundreds more.
None of this fossil-making is being done today.

It is sometimes criticized for only being able to tell us about a small portion of our genetic history. I think the critics forget that our mothers have fathers and there are a number of ways to obtain male test subjects to expand Y results across the entire family tree. In the last few years, there has been a brighter spotlight on autosomal testing and its ability to test a larger portion of our genes. This may have diverted research attention. Relatively speaking, y-DNA is still in its infancy and there is much more to be learned.
It is meaningful to know not only where they lived, but also when they lived to give us clues to their part in history. My closest genetic cousins and I share a common ancestor over 1, years ago. In the time since getting my upgrade to 67 markers, I have received only one match. I learned that I was part of haplogroup G, from the Caucasus Mountains. I also tried Genebase. The day after Knoernschild was killed on Nov. Her daughter, year-old Doris Wines, had been walking to the neighborhood donut shop that Sunday morning. Wines lived just a few doors down from her mother in St. Louis suburb on the western bank of the Missouri River. As she went to drop it off, she saw that the window in the front door had been broken.
That afternoon, police told reporters that Knoernschild had been murdered and her home ransacked. The motive was likely burglary, they said, but so far there were no witnesses or suspects. Detective Mike Harvey of the St. Charles Police Department was assigned to the case. Harvey was a Vietnam vet with a flair for convincing criminals to rat each other out. He would devote considerable reflection over the next 30 years to the death of Eleonora Knoernschild.
